So you’d like to start your very own monthly intentions lists? Look no further 👀
step one: source your images
Pinterest is a great source of inspiration. If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, just start pinning items that feel good, and see what patterns you notice when you look at them as a group. Are you leaning towards a lot of travel images? Maybe one of your intentions for the year is about travel.
top tip: pinterest is a vibe machine. If you’re looking for images of a fuzzy sweater, search fuzzy sweater ~*aesthetic*~ to find the results you’re looking for
step two: pinpoint your themes
I like to set up my year to reflect the seasons. January is typically a time when I have less going on in my personal life, and everyone around me is in line with the ‘new-year-new-me’ energy I’m harnessing. For this reason, I add a lot of habit-forming goals in January.
I like to build out the first few months in advance, but not necessarily the whole year. Things change in the real world, so things can change in your notes app moodboard too. Don’t feel pressured to fill out the entire 12 months in one sitting.
step three: create and collage
Now comes the fun: collaging! I download my favorite images from Pinterest and arrange them in the app Bazaart. I find this is the easiest tool for me to remove backgrounds and resize images, but you could definitely accomplish this with other photo editing apps.
top tip: there is no correct way to collage anything. thank goodness!!! last year I used these full images and added text over them— this year I’m getting a little more abstract.
step four: build your lists
Once you’ve added your image to the notes app (or wherever you’d like to keep it!) you can start giving yourself tasks for the month. I like to add a mixture of things that feel attainable and enjoyable with things that push me out of my comfort zone. Some months are going to be busier than others— that’s just how real life goes, so the lists can go that way too.
After I list 5-6 goals to check off, I include a few lines of ‘nice-to-haves’. For example of the theme of the month is Community and one of my big goals is to host friends for dinner, then a ‘nice-to-have’ could be texting someone I haven’t caught up with in a while. Sometimes I use this space for reminders instead of adding extra tasks to my month— I never want completing the goals to feel daunting.
step five: enjoy :-)
You’ve got your little notes app moodboard up and running! Well done, you. Feel free to use the same themes as me in my monthly emails or drop a comment below with what you’re working on for your months!
xoxo,
Julianna
