There's something so powerful about how our online personas evolve alongside us. The screen names and curated profiles feel like a digital wardrobe, where every underscore and number tells a story of who we wanted to be seen as in those fleeting moments. It’s fascinating, and a little eerie, how those identities shaped us while also trapping us in the constant cycle of self-presentation. The way you talk about curation being both a tool and a crutch hits so hard—finding ourselves through aesthetics, yet sometimes losing our true selves along the way. It's a nostalgic and insightful reflection.
I think about this time to time about my online behavior but you have given me something more to think about. I suddenly remember a few influencers of my age who added to me feeling insecure also due to class disparity that I wasn't aware of in the beginning.
A lot of korean population usually go for usernames that have no 'real' identity, more like don't reflect necessarily their personality. perhaps even some japanese population that I came across. They really went beyond the 'ego' by doing so. I still see many korean creators and influencers online focusing more on their niche and interests than their identity. In a way that their username didn't matter but what they had to and wanted to share mattered. This still creates a sense of perception around their intellect but I think it's way better than when it's with personality and identity, if you know what I mean!
Just have a lot to think about, love that about this.
